An interesting sandstone outcrop

This is a photograph of an outcrop in the upper Virgelle Member, Milk River Formation, age close to the Santonian-Campanian boundary. The outcrop is in very large coarse-grained trough cross-bedded, probably subtidal dunes of outer tidal flat facies.

Location: Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park, Davis Coulee, about 1 km south of junction with the Milk River valley, east side of east arm, about 4m above edge of abrupt cliff face, midslope.
