Flow and transport in groundwater aquifers is controled by heterogeneities in the subsurface. The goal of our research program is to improve our ability to effectively define the parameters in groundwater flow and transport models and to monitor chemical distributions and changes in the subsurface. We are particularly trying to develop practical protocols so we can get quantitative estimates from the analysis of geophysical data. The tools that we use are found in a variety of disciplines including quantitative geology, numerical simulation, geostatistics, petrophysics, hydrogeology and geophysical methods. We have students working at the senior thesis, M.Sc., Ph.D. and PDF levels. I am particularly interested in students who have, or are willing to develop a quantitative background. Having a background in hydrogeology, numerical modeling, geophysics, mathematics or physics is desireable. For example, a student with a background in mathematics can study hydrogeology and develop flow and transport models, or a student with a background in hydrogeology can study geophysics and work on the application of geophysical methods to hydrogeologic or environmental problems. At present, I am particularly interested in students with interests in:
