Melissa Dawn Newton

Degree Program:  B.Sc. Geology and Geophysics at the University of Calgary

Education: 5th year in the Geology and Geophysics program

Employment History:Summer 2007: Research for Dr. Spratt under an NSERC scholarship. The research included mapping the  geology and fracture analysis in Grotto Canyon near Canmore.
August 2006: Teaching Assistant for a third year geology field school in
complex sedimentary environments at the University of Calgary.
Summer 2006: Research assistant at the University of Calgary determining
the mineralogy, grain size, and bitumen content of core from the tar
sands. This research was also conducted under a NSERC scholarship.
Summer 2005: Worked at the Geological Society of Canada entering data into the computer and digitizing well logs and maps.

Academic Interests
All aspects of structural geology, especially of the
Rockies and the foothills. I am currently working on an undergrad thesis
on the geology of Grotto Canyon.
