The Instrument:
Our JEOL JXA-8200 electron microprobe has five wavelength-dispersive spectrometers
(WDS) and an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). It is capable of micron-scale
chemical analysis of solid-state materials for elements from Be to U. Combining the
8 channels of the EDS with the 5 wavelength-dispersive spectrometers allows simultaneous,
semi-quantitative chemical mapping of up to 13 elements. We also have a
dedicated computer with state-of-the-art imaging software for processing your
backscattered electron, secondary electron and X-ray map images.
